7 brands KILLING IT in the style and SUSTAINABILITY stakes

Read this ...

We all know the planet is f*cked, for want of a better description, and we’re all looking for ways to help unf*ck it. Brands everywhere claim to be sustainable, but is that just a buzzword nowadays? Our tips are to check what materials are being used, recyclable or renewable like linen, hemp, tencel or silk, buy local and research a brand before pulling the trigger on a purchase.

You know how they say ‘buy well, buy once’? Well, here are some of our favourite brands to invest in, who are doing sustainable chic the right way.

Ozma of California

This Cali based powerhouse focuses on sustainably sourced and biodegradable textiles that celebrate the beauty of imperfection, and we are picking up what they’re putting down. Personal fave? The Josie top, yes please.

Emma Aitchison

UK based jewellery designer Emma Aitchison creates pieces inspired by nature, made from recycled metal with compostable packaging, and are cute as hell. Think vibey shaped bangles, gorgeous hoops, and rings you’ll want to wear forever. View her range here.

Mara Hoffman

We are oBsEssED with the punchy, DGAF attitude these pieces have. Sassy prints, a dreamy design process and a supply chain to shout about, we can’t get enough of Mara Hoffman.

Behno

Behno means “sister” in Hindi, chosen to represent the community of sisters in their partner factories, which reflects the respect for the makers behind these gorgeous Italian leather bags. Behno are changing the game when it comes to sustainability, with consciously made pieces you’ll love forever, plus their use of coloured leather (shout out croc tangerine) is doing things to us. Check their products, and read more about their amazing work, including The Garment Worker Project here:

Jillian Boustred

Australian designer Jillian Boustred could run a masterclass on creating to-die-for classics that don’t cost the earth (literally). To reduce waste, the label only makes very small product runs, all of which are posted out in biodegradable satchels from their Chippendale studio. We are living for the dramatic sleeves on the Esther dress.

Naked Cashmere

Environmental consciousness and cashmere is a pretty dreamy combo, and Naked Cashmere are killing it in the chic (and softness) stakes. All their pieces are sustainable, Fair Trade and traceable, not to mention unbelievably comfortable. Dress them up, dress them down, keep them forever. Check them out here:

We Are We Wear

With a love for women, body positivity and the planet, female-led We Are We Wear are speaking our language. They make swimwear and lingerie from unwanted waste materials - think fishing nets, industrial plastics and fabric scraps, and the result is affordable, and sexy AF.  Black mesh, neon bikinis, spicy harnesses, it’s all in there, and we love to see it.
