These sweet and SPICY grapefruit margaritas are SO refreshing

Read this ...

Looking for an at-home spicy drink? Throwing a dinner party for some of your nearest or locked up in covid lockdown and in need of some spice on your weekend?

These sweet and spicy grapefruit margaritas are so refreshing, our editor is a fierce believer in drinking them all year round, so let’s call them trans seasonal! You can leave out the jalapeño if you want a basic, fresh grapefruit margarita, but we love the spice.

You won’t find any contrieua in here because…  at PLR we don’t think you need it in this particular recipe. It’s syrupy sweet and we find that margaritas taste more clean and refreshing without it, plus you’re making these at home, the less ingredients the better. Feel free to add a squeeze of orange if you want this margarita to taste just a bit more traditional, but we’re sure you’ll like this just as is. ¡Salud!

INGREDIENTS

Per margarita

  • 1 shot glass fresh lime juice ( 1 large lime, juiced)
  • 1 teaspoon agave nectar or 2 teaspoons simple syrup
  • 1 thinly sliced jalapeño
  • 2 shots of grapefruit juice ( roughly ½ large grapefruit, juiced)
  • 1 ½ shots blanco/silver or reposado tequila - the better quality tequila the better.

Chili-salt rims and garnish

  • 3 tspns salt
  • 1 tspn chili powder
  • Lime wedges

  • First, prepare your glasses. Mix together the salt and chili on a small plate. Run a lime wedge around the outer top edge of your glasses, then roll the edges in the chili-salt so it sticks. Place one big ice cube or a few smaller ice cubes in each glass.
  • In a cocktail shaker add the lime juice, agave and jalapeño slice. Use a muddler to crush the jalapeño. Pour in the grapefruit juice and tequila, then top off the shaker with ice. Fasten the lid on securely and shake shake shake.
  • Strain the mixture into your prepared glasses. If you want to be cute about it, garnish the drinks with a small wedge of grapefruit, sliced halfway through the middle so it rests on your glass.
