To drink or NOT to drink…

Read this ...

Let’s be real, dancing all night, punchy margaritas and making 100 new best friends is a VIBE, and life’s too short not to live a little. HOWEVER waking up feeling frankly, like shit, can get tired pretty quick. You know that point in December when it feels like your veins might actually just be a river of wine? Yeah… Not the one. On the flipside, there are those times when you’re all about cancelling plans, “sorry just saw this!” messages and getting those solid 8 hours in. It kind of makes you wonder, does living your best life actually *have* to come at the expense of your wellbeing?

You may or may not have heard of sober curiosity, the wellness phrase coined by Ruby Warrington, British writer and author of the aptly titled book ‘Sober Curious.’ Thanks in no small part to Ruby being an absolute balance queen, sober curiosity has gained momentum, and low-to-no alcohol is the fastest growing sector of the drinks industry as more and more people look for a booze-free buzz.

Warrington refers to sober-curiosity as “the next logical step in the wellness revolution” and suggests bringing a “questioning mindset to every drinking situation, rather than go along with the dominant drinking culture”. If you’ve been questioning your relationship with drinking, a middle-ground approach to dealing with it is WAY less aggressive than a black and white one.

If you associate not drinking with having a less good time, smashing tap water and leaving at the peak of the party, get with the times baby. Here’s our sober-curious starter pack, for those who are *thinking* about thinking about it.

READ

Surprise, surprise, Sober Curious by Ruby Warrington is a MUST read for anyone dipping a toe into sober-curiosity. This book is considered the holy-grail for good reason. The leading voice of the movement knows a thing or two about managing FOMO and STILL living your best life (also check out her podcast of the same name for some deep and meaningfuls with a healthy side of lols).

LISTEN

Jardine Libaire on ‘Recovery Happy Hour’ Podcast.

This is a great one for anyone who isn’t sure who they’d even be without their party-girl persona (guilty). Jardine Libaire does an awesome job of explaining how she reframed her identity, after she hung up her disco shoes.

The Unexpected Joy of Being Sober Audiobook by Catherine Gray.

If you want to approach sobriety a little less soberly, this audiobook is where it’s at. It’s full of those little I LOVE MY LIFE moments, that make saying no, feel like a ‘hell YES’.
