Vitamin C Serum in your Skincare Routine? SO MUCH YES

VITAMIN C Serum in your Skincare Routine? SO MUCH YES

Read this ...

Vitamin C: just for keeping colds at bay, right? Nope. It’s sooo much more than that.

We’ve seen it in loads of skincare products with cult-like status, so we reached out to Dermal Facialist Madona, founder of Sydney’s beautiful spa-like clinic KAELON, to see what all the fuss is about.

Here’s why you need a vitamin C serum in your life. Like, yesterday.

What are the benefits of vitamin C in skincare?

· Vitamin C is a powerful antioxidant that can protect the skin from free radicals caused by harmful UV light, pollution, and infrared radiation

· It boosts collagen production, which starts to decrease as we age (particularly in our 30s…)

· It aids your skin’s natural regeneration process (which essentially means more radiance and a brighter complexion)

· It can increase the protection of your sunscreen

What’s the best vitamin C to use?

Turns out, there’s more than one form of vitamin C (who knew?!). The one you need to look for is L-ascorbic acid which is the most stable and effective form of vitamin C in skincare.

Ideally, look for a formula that has higher than 8% vitamin C (unless your skin is on the sensitive end of the scale - in which case, go for a lower concentration). Vitamin C on its own is great, but it works better with other antioxidants such as vitamin E and ferulic acid – they stabilise the vitamin C and actually BOOST its efficacy.

Any other vitamin C tips?

Ain’t no vitamin C without SPF. It goes without saying babes, but always, always, always, wear a sunscreen after. Madona tells us: “the best way to prevent further accelerated ageing is incorporating your antioxidant serum and sunscreen.”

Bright skin, slowed down ageing? Yes please. What vitamin C serum should I buy? We love SkinCeuticals’ C E Ferulic – it’s got legendary status in the beauty world for good reason. As well as vitamin E and ferulic acid, this serum contains 15% L-absorbic acid. And studies have found that firmness increased by 31% and fine lines and wrinkles by 32% after use (yup, they’re the kind of numbers we like to see…). Apply a couple of drops to the face and neck in the morning after cleansing.
